Stay Strong. Stay Steady. Keep Doing What You Love.
Staying active as you get older isn't about slowing down - it's about maintaining the strength, balance, mobility and confidence to keep doing the things that matter to you.
Livewell Health's physio-led senior fitness program in Melbourne is designed for adults 55+ who want to exercise with purpose and invest in their long-term health.
Whether you want to improve your strength, feel steadier on your feet, maintain your mobility, reduce your risk of falls, or simply stay active and independent as you age, our team can help you find the right way to move.
Our Melbourne physio-led senior fitness program brings together three complementary classes: Strong & Steady | Mindful Flow | Brain Boost
Together, they provide opportunities to work on strength, balance, mobility, coordination and cognitive challenges throughout the week.
Exercise Designed for Healthy Ageing
Our bodies change as we age, but getting older doesn't mean accepting weakness, poor balance or reduced physical capacity.
Regular exercise can help older adults maintain:
- Muscle strength and physical function
- Balance and stability
- Mobility and flexibility
- Bone health
- Coordination and reaction
- Improve confidence and independence
Rather than waiting until movement becomes difficult, our approach to healthy ageing exercise focuses on building and maintaining your physical capacity for the years ahead.
Our senior fitness program is delivered from our Melbourne physiotherapy clinic on Queens Road, near St Kilda Road, in a purpose-built exercise studio with professional guidance available when you need it.

- Travel more confidently
- Return to sport or recreational activities
- Get on and off the floor more easily

- Maintain your independence and stay socially active
Your program should reflect what you want your body to continue being able to do.
Balance Training & Falls Prevention
Balance and falls prevention are an important part of healthy ageing, but you do not need to have experienced a fall to benefit from balance training.
Changes in strength, balance, reaction time and mobility can gradually make everyday activities more challenging. Targeted exercise can help improve your stability and confidence with movement.
Depending on your needs, your program may include strength training, static and dynamic balance exercises, reactive balance training, walking and functional movement, and dual-task activities.
Balance training can be incorporated into individual physiotherapy or your Senior Fitness classes.
Start With a Senior Fitness & Balance Assessment
If you're new to our Strong & Steady program, we recommend starting with a Senior Fitness & Balance Assessment with one of our physiotherapists.
This helps us understand your current physical capacity, relevant health considerations and personal goals so we can recommend an appropriate starting point.
What We Assess
Depending on your needs, your assessment may look at:
- Strength and functional movement
- Balance and falls risk
- Walking and mobility
- Exercise tolerance
- Confidence with movement
These measurements provide a useful baseline that can be repeated over time to track changes in your strength, balance and physical function.
Be Proactive About Healthy Ageing
You don't need to wait until you've had a fall or started losing strength to begin.
Appropriate exercise can help you maintain the physical capacity you already have, build confidence in your movement and support your ability to stay active and independent as you get older.

Any Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
01What is the best exercise for seniors?
There isn't one single exercise that suits everyone. A well-rounded exercise program for older adults generally includes a combination of strength training, balance exercises, aerobic activity, mobility and functional movement.
The right combination depends on your current abilities, health, goals and the activities you want to continue doing.
02Is strength training safe for adults over 60?
Strength training can be appropriate for older adults when exercises and resistance are selected according to the individual's abilities and progressed appropriately.
If you're unsure where to begin or have medical conditions, injuries or significant changes in mobility, an assessment with a physiotherapist can help establish an appropriate starting point.
03Can exercise help prevent falls?
Exercise that challenges balance and functional movement can help reduce falls in older adults.
Strength training is also important because maintaining lower-body strength supports everyday activities such as standing from a chair, climbing stairs and walking.
Our Strong & Steady classes combine these elements within an individualised exercise program.
04Do I need to have balance problems to join?
No.
Our senior fitness program isn't only for people who have fallen or have poor balance.
Many people join because they want to proactively maintain their strength, fitness, balance and independence as they get older.
05What age are your senior fitness classes for?
Our senior fitness program is primarily designed for adults aged 55 and over.
Your current physical ability is more important than your age alone, and exercises can be adjusted according to your individual starting point.
06Do I need an assessment before joining?
New clients joining Strong & Steady need to complete a Senior Fitness & Balance Assessment with one of our physiotherapists first.
This allows us to understand your goals, assess your starting point and prescribe appropriate exercises for your class.
Requirements for Mindful Flow and Brain Boost may differ. Contact our team if you're unsure which class is right for you.

Our classes are held at Livewell Health, Suite 831–833, 1 Queens Road, Melbourne VIC 3004, near St Kilda Road.
