Frequently Asked Questions
01When to start pre- and post-operative physiotherapy?
The best time to start pre- or post-operative surgery will depend entirely on your condition and your physician’s recommendation. But generally, the best time to start pre-operative physiotherapy is at least 8-12 weeks before surgery and for rehab post surgery, you can start immediately after the surgery most of the time. For expert guidance on this front, you can connect with us for a consultation and determine the right action plan for you.
02How long does rehab post-surgery last?
All rehabs post surgery are meant to target and improve your existing condition. So, based on your condition and the kind of surgery you underwent, the rehab period will vary. For instance, for knee surgery, advanced recovery can take as much as 12 weeks, and for back surgery, it can take several months. Long-term rehab is often recommended to improve your long–term health and prevent the possibility of a relapse. Connect with us for more information on this front.
03Will pre-operative physiotherapy hurt?
Pre-operative physiotherapy can be slightly discomforting but it should not be painful. Our therapist will adjust exercises to your level of comfort and gradually increase intensity as needed. If any exercise causes pain, inform your therapist immediately and they will do the needful.
04How soon should I expect to see improvements from rehab post surgery?
There is no one timeline that fits all. Some patients may see basic improvements within a few days to weeks post-surgery and take several months to regain full function. But for some, complete recovery takes only a few weeks. When you connect with us, we will assess your situation and offer you a tentative timeline. After every session, we will monitor your progress and help you gain clarity on your recovery period.
05Can I continue post-operative physiotherapy at home?
Yes, with the guidance of our physiotherapists, you can continue post-operative physiotherapy at home. They will provide you with exercises to do at home. These exercises will complement the work done in the clinic and help speed up recovery. It’s important to follow the therapist’s instructions and perform exercises regularly to see the best results.
